Shamir Brothers

The design pays homage to the work of the Shamir brothers and takes inspiration from the cover of the book "The Story of Israel in Stamps". The book, published in 1972, was designed by Gabriel Shamir (1909–1992) and Maxim Shamir (1910–1990) - two Latvian-Israeli graphic designers.

Liepāja—Rīga—Tel Aviv

The two brothers were born in Liepaja and opened a graphic design practice in 1933 on 9 Albert Street in Riga. In 1935, they moved to Israel and established the «Shamir Brothers Studio» on Rothschild Boulevard in Tel Aviv. That same year, they co-founded the Society of Hebrew Graphic Artists in Eretz, Israel.

Graphic design work of Shamir brothers

During their careers, the brothers completed graphic design work for Israel's official state medals, stamps, currency notes, and emblems, including the 1949 Israeli State Coat of Arm.

Their small design studio, born out of Riga, significantly impacted the newly formed Israeli graphic design landscape.

The Story of Israel

While studying the collection of the works by the Latvian-Israeli brothers and graphic designers, a book cover stood out — The Story of Israel in Stamps, published in 1972. The cover featured a graphic pattern resembling the shapes of a menorah candlestick.

We re-drew the shapes & designed a poster in blue and white as a homage to the people of Israel.
